History
Ultraman Arc The Movie: The Clash of Light and Evil
Yuma came across Sascal in the streets of Hoshimoto City. He was pretending to be a exhausted old man and asked him for water, prompting Yuma to take him to the SKIP office, where he acted oddly before suddenly revealing that he knew Yuma was Ultraman Arc. Having heard of him on his travels, Sascal had come to test if he was worthy of being a hero, with three tests: The first test "The Dog-Wolf Kaiju and the Boy" , the second test "Eerie! The Interstellar Plant Incident" , and the third test "Showdown! Arc vs. Guil Arc" .
Sascal used his power over time to organize and observe the tests in three separate timelines. After each experience, he would ask Yuma what he had learned and shout "Sascatch!", the Diggle word for "pass", if he approved of his answer. Should Yuma fail the tests, Sascal was going to take away his ability to become Arc.
In the third trial, Sascal decided to bring Yuma from the future to help his past self. After the crisis was resolved, the future Yuma told Sascal the lesson he remembered learning from the trial, which Sascal approved, finally deeming Yuma as having passed. Additionally, it was revealed that Sascal and the future Yuma knew each other from working together against Ze Su. Ultraman Arc The Movie: The Clash of Light and Evil

Trivia
- Naoto Takenaka, who played Sascal, previously worked with writer Jun Tsugita on the 2009 film Yamagata Scream. Wanting Sascal to have a "commanding presence," Tsugita recalled his past connection with Takenaka and proposed him for the role. This marks their first collaboration in 16 years.
- They wanted Sascal to be male to contrast with Sweed being female.
- Sascal's "Sascatch!" originally stems from Takenaka's catchphrase.
- Takenaka watched the Ultraman Series as a child, with Return of Ultraman being his favorite, citing Jiro Dan/Hideki Go's action scenes and transforming without a transformation device, the series' "darker visuals," and the casting of Shin Kishida and Rumi Sakakibara as his reasons.[1][2][7]
- Yuma's actor, Yuki Totsuka, stated that he had been looking forward to sharing scenes with Takenaka ever since he first read the script. Reflecting on the experience, Totsuka explained that the atmosphere on set became lively and energetic as long as he responded naturally to the performances Takenaka delivered and followed his rhythm. He noted that he didn't need to do anything in particular—simply catching what Takenaka gave him and reacting genuinely was enough to make the scenes engaging.[8][9][10]
- Director Takanori Tsujimoto, in his first collaboration with Takenaka, admitted he was uncertain about what to expect, wondering if Takenaka would jump straight into his signature improvisational style. However, he found that Takenaka followed the script faithfully unless specifically asked to make a moment more entertaining or exaggerated.[8][9]
- Tsujimoto also noted that the dynamic between Sascal and Yuma was similar to the real-life chemistry between Takenaka and Totsuka, contributing to the natural and authentic feel of their scenes.[9]
- While Sho Kaneta did not appear in scenes with Takenaka, he observed the filming and was impressed by Takenaka's powerful on-set presence.[9]
