Planium , also known as Planium Energy ,[1] is the energy essence of Ultraman Joneus for his series of attacks. It is also utilized by a fellow Ultra People, Ultraman Titas.
History
The☆Ultraman
Planium Beam was Ultraman Joneus's form of energy attacks, used as early as his first transformation on Earth after bonding with Choichiro Hikari and fighting a quartet of Seagra.[2][3] The energy beam was mostly affective against the opponents he faced, even against the strongest monsters such as Mac Datar,[4] but certain opponents were able to evade or counter the attack. Such instances being Spiral's own cyclone repelling the energy ball,[5] Gibaaroga's curled form providing exoskeletal protection,[6] Red King's strong hide,[1] and Golding's rock-like nature which had proven impervious to the attack.[7] Outside of its practical use, the attack saw usage in clearing the rainclouds[8] and acting as a flare signal.[9] Equipped with the Super Magma Capsule , Joneus could fire a flaming Planium Beam, designed to destroy Darantulas.[10]
In particular instance, a result of exerting a huge portion of his energy to heal Kyoko Kodaka, the weakened Joneus required Amia's help in defeating Garbados to compensate for his low-powered Planium Beam with her Amiassher beam.[11]
During the Monster Asylum fiasco, the members of the Science Guard tapped into the Monster Asylum facility to power an experimental weapon against Agujon that was chasing them. According to the narrator they had fired a beam of Ultra Energy by drawing power from the facility, a construction of U40 design and creation. While never directly called Planium, it is safe to presume the energy substance fired was something simlar.
By extrapolation this implies that the energy cannons of the U40 Navy and Heller Empire, are firing Ultra Beams, or some comparable energy.
Ultraman: Great Monster Decisive Battle
The Planium Beam makes its first live action appearance alongside Joneus's own suit, as seen when he uses it to take down Bedran. Ultraman: Great Monster Decisive Battle
Ultraman Taiga
With the help of bracelet-type Ultra Taiga Accessories, Titas is able to empower his Planium Buster via Ultraman X and Geed's powers respectively.[12]
Upon Hiroyuki Kudo obtaining the Taiga Tri Blade, the rest of the Tri-Squad can combine into Ultraman Taiga Tri-Strium. Worth noting is that Titas's representative attack (Titas Burning Hammer) has the flaming energy ball and the swinging motion echoing that of Joneus's Planium Beam A Type.[13]
Ultra Galaxy Fight: The Absolute Conspiracy
During Absolute Tartarus's intrusion on Planet U40, Joneus met and used his rapid firing of Planium Beam A Type to counter the Absolutian, forcing Tartarus to retreat by the time of Ultraman Zero's arrival.
Having parted ways with his predecessors' powers, Titas used the Planium Buster in the fight against The Kingdom's Zetton army, first in point-blank against a Zetton Falx and second on Planet Ebil in against an army of them, the latter fired alongside Joneus's similar attack. The Appearance
Nature
As seen from Joneus's discharge of Planium Beams, the Planium Energy's coloration and energy stream is often inconsistent with The☆Ultraman's animation.
- A ball of white energy with blue accents (usually seen in A Type and is often seen in live action)
- Pale blue light beam (the most frequent coloration in B Type)
- Reddish/white beam (against Golding and Imit-Joneus)
- Blue lightning (against Islanda's tentacles)
- Red beam (against Badan, also seen in Imit-Joneus)
The Planium Buster fired by Ultraman Titas is colored green, adding another theory that Planium Energy does not necessarily translated to a specific color.
Planium Beam itself
Ultraman Joneus with the Planium Beam firing pose.[3]
Ultraman Joneus's signature finishing move is the Planium Beam ,[3][14][15] which can be fired on two separate versions; the energy ball oriented A Type and the normal Ultra Beam-firing B Type.[2] In both ways, they mostly resulted with the "L"-style arm maneuver being formed by Joneus, but unlike the formal one used since Ultraseven's Wide Shot, the elbow of the vertical right arm is placed on the wrist of Joneus's horizontal left arm. In some cases, both are used at the same moment, via B Type firing, followed by A Type as the finishing touch.[2]
- A Type: The A Type version usually has Joneus charging his entire right forearm with energy first, then performing the "L" hand maneuver. The right arm then breaks formation by swinging backwards then forward, causing the accumulated energy to form into a spherical projectile as it launched against the opponent.[14] Other variation of the charging is also seen in against Wanigodon when the energy is emitted from his chest.[2]
- B Type: The B Type is fired immediately upon forming the "L" maneuver straight to the opponent. While it requires little to no charging motion, the resulting firepower is weaker but makes it up for the quick succession of deployment when needed.[2] The beam output varies to a large laser firing or a zigzag lightning bolt-like firing.[2]
- Planium Beam Cross Shooting : A beam fired when he places his arms in a cross, with his right hand touching his Astro Spot.[1]
- Energy Synthesis Beam : A beam that combines Joneus's Astro Beam and Planium Beam into a singular shot. It was first used against Fire Badon in a desperate move as Joneus's energy started to decline.[17][18]
- A version of Planium Beam enhanced by the Super Magma Capsule. It harnessed the Super Magma energy meant to counter Darantulas's Freezer G, thus the resulting beam was a purple stream that burned the flying spider monster. The beam was fired in a "+"-style, but Joneus finished the monster with a spherical ball, implying that the latter attack is a version of the A Type.[10]
Planium Buster
Planium Buster is Ultraman Titas's finishing move,[19] performed with the help of the Taiga Spark. Titas first crosses his fists downward with the right arm above, allowing the Taiga Spark to generate the energy ball in front of him.[20] Titas later muster the strength to punch it, sending the projectile against his opponent.[21]
In Ultraman Taiga, Titas can augment the Planium Buster with powers of the preceding New Generation Heroes via Hiroyuki's help in scanning them to the Taiga Spark, including:[12]
- Wrecking Buster : After scanning the Geed-let, Titas' Planium Buster is enhanced in darkness energy.[12]
- Electro Buster : After scanning the X-let, Titas' Planium Buster is enhanced in electrical energy. Unlike his other Planium Buster-based finishers, Titas fires it when he places his arms in an "X",[12] akin to Ultraman X's Xanadium Beam.
Other uses
- Boomerang Guillotine : A crescent-shaped slashing beam that splits Red King in a vertical bisection. According to Ultraman Official Data File, it harnesses Planium Energy like the Planium Beam, the same way that Spacium is applied to Ultra Slash other than Spacium Beam.[1]
- Planium X Beam : An original beam firing accessed by Imit-Ultraman Joneus,[22] performed by outstretching his hands forward into a pink energy stream. This beam is weaker than normal Planium Beam, possibility to maintain the ruse of his disguise while simultaneously keeping Giros safe. However assuming that the fake can also perform his own Planium Beam B Type, it is assumed that Planium X Beam is more or less the same principle (using Planium Energy).[23]

Trivia
- Many fans have presumed that Planium is to the People of U40 what Spacium is to the Residents of the Land of Light. This is unconfirmed.
- A Type's firing with the arm maneuver in place would not be seen in another Ultra until 39 years later in Ultraman R/B, wherein Ultraman Rosso Flame's finisher, Flame Sphere Shoot, also had him charging a fiery energy sphere before his "+" arm maneuver force it to push against the target.
- One of Joneus's Planium Beam B Type is fired in the same "+" position as the Spacium Beam (in one occasion, that is how the Super Magma-enhanced variant fired with). Humorously enough, Joneus would perform this attack with other Ultra Warriors in New Century Ultraman Legend.
- Titas's original Planium Buster was never seen in use within the show he debuted, Ultraman Taiga, except for the opening scene Buddy, steady, go! where he was performing it in the opening night. Presumably, this scene was filmed in a backdrop of the same episode he fought against Galactron MK2. The actual Planium Buster was initially seen in Ultraman Fusion Fight! arcade game until it made its proper live action canonical appearance in The Absolute Conspiracy.
- Each of the past Ultra Powers that enhanced Titas's Planium Buster seems to have a peculiar common ground:
- Geed: Like Titas, Geed has parental issues that stems from their malevolent origins and raised in an adopted family. Titas's dark coloration attributed to his dark past, just as Geed's "default" form Primitive has a dark streak of coloration.
- X: Though less associated with Titas and more with Joneus (his predecessor), as he had fought against an android Ultra People named Imit-Ultraman Joneus, which some materials came to refer to him as "Ultraman X".
