Juran[1] , codenamed the Mammoth Flower , is a species of giant flowering plant that first appeared in episode 4 of Ultra Q.

History
Ultra Q
Juran was an ancient plant that emerged after a powerful earthquake rocked Japan, having survived for many years as a seed beneath Tokyo until conditions were right for it to germinate. Juran's presence was first felt by the appearance of its roots, which emerged from the ground and damaged streets, buildings, and even the imperial palace. Soon roots broke through the walls of a large building, trapping the people inside and stealing their blood to feed Juran. As the structure was being evacuated, the building split in 2, revealing Juran's full form. As the world looked on in amazement, the most brilliant minds in Japan tried to find a solution; in spite of Juran's remarkable appearance, it was continuing to wreak havoc on the surrounding area, and so it had to be destroyed. A powerful toxin was deployed with flamethrowers. As soldiers burned the roots from below, the toxin was dumped on the flower from above. Trivia
- A very similar monster known as the Mars Rose appears in the Ultraman Manga and was meant to be in the original script of Alien Mefilas in Ultraman.
- The petals of the original Juran prop were made of tissues.
- The Mammoth Flower in the GeGeGe no Kitarō franchise presumably shares the basic concept with that of Juran, where Shigeru Mizuki introduced his Mammoth Flower in November 1965, about two months earlier than the airing of the episode Mammoth Flower by Tsuburaya.
- Depictions of Legion and Legion Plant in Gamera 2: Attack of Legion were based on Juran and Garamon. The unmade Ultra Q film, which became the basis for Ultra Q The Movie: Legend of the Stars, involved Kazunori Ito and Shusuke Kaneko, and they reused their ideas for the Gamera films, and Juran and Garamon were a part of them, and the film crews actually called Legion Plant as Mammoth Flower during the production.[2][3][4]

On Planet Boris, while the ZAP SPACY crew members Oki and Captain Hyuga stopped to investigate a corpse of a Mukadender, Juran appeared from underground to attack them by releasing its poison pollen. Litra appeared to do battle with it. Juran managed to keep Litra way from itself by using its vines, but once Litra used her Citronela Acid on the plant, Juran withered away. The Fifth Crewman

Ultraman Z
Though Juran itself didn't appear, the seeds of one were shown to have fallen into the hands of Alien Barossa II, who consumed the seeds to grow to a gigantic size after being confronted by Haruki Natsukawa and Jugglus Juggler. Beliarok
Ultraman Trigger: New Generation Tiga
Similar to Barossa II, a Juran seed was acquired by the later generation, Barossa IV. He lost the seed at first, but he found it alongside his pet Zandrias Kedamya after he was confronted by Ignis. A Juran, named the Mammoth Flower , was the second Giant Unidentified Lifeform that appeared in Japan. The Mammoth Flower appeared in central Tokyo, emerging from the ground and blooming in front of Tokyo Station. Ultimately, the JSDF were able to destroy the plant after using a combination of carbon dioxide gas and flames to make it wilt. Shin Ultraman

- Vines/Roots: Juran's roots act like vines, they can move around its base, ensnaring prey and draining them of blood.
- Poison Pollen: The yellow pollen that Juran releases is highly poisonous.
- Growth: Juran is capable of remaining dormant for long periods of time as a seed, then grow to a colossal size at a phenomenal rate. In addition, other organisms that eat its seeds will grow to a giant size. This was first demonstrated by Alien Barossa II, who consumed the seeds to increase his height to its maximum.
